Martin Short Race Report - Teretonga park, Invercargill Round 3 BNT NZV8 Championship
Well another weekend gone in the BNT NZV8 Championship at Teretonga Park over the weekend and probably my most challenging weekend I have had yet, having only ever driven a Formula Ford at Teretonga before it was a very steep learning curve for me. Practice was the first time I had driven the Zoagn falcon at Teretonga and after having a small crash in practice one I worked myself into a good groove and ended 16th and 12th in the sessions.
Qualifying was very close and after sitting in 9th with only a couple of minutes to go we got bumped out of the top 10 into 12th only missing out of the top 10 by 0.1 of a second! It was disappointing to miss out on making the top 10 but we were confident we could move forward in the races.
Race 1 starting on the outside I got pushed of the racing line at the first corner and I went back to about 16th and then worked my way back up to 13th having pretty good pace.
Race 2 I had a good race moving up to 11th from 13th and made some good passes and had a great race car and was looking forward to the reverse grid race.
For the reverse grid race the sky’s opened up at Teretonga. This was a complete new experience for me never have driven in a NZV8 on a wet track before. Starting from 7th unfortunately at the start another car squeezed me onto the grass taking us both out. After then I was about 50 seconds behind the main field so I turned the race into a test session learning what the capabilities of the V8 are in the wet finishing 17th.
We now are in Queenstown getting the car ready for Timaru this weekend. Once again a big thanks to Team Richards Motorsport for doing a great job and to all of my sponsors that have helped me during the season a special mention to The Speight’s Ale House Invercargill for looking after the team on the weekend.
