Martin Short Race Report - Levels Raceway, Timaru Round 4 BNT NZV8 Championship

Round 4 of the BNT NZV8 Championship was held at Levels Raceway in Timaru over the weekend. I had a good start to the weekend in practice getting into a good groove and adapting to the track well. I finished the two sessions in 13
th and 10th. Qualifying started out great we were sitting in P7 only a .1 of a second of the pace of the top runners. Once we all put on new tyres we didn’t get any new tyre gain where everyone else picked up .5 to 1 second and I dropped back to 11th missing out on the top 10 shootout only by .1 of a second. It was frustrating to be so close and miss out.

Race 1 started out great I had a good start and moved up to 9
th.
I had good speed at the start of the race but struggled with the
car for the last few laps and dropped back to 11th

Race 2 I had a good race moving up to 9
th from 11th before making
contact with another competitor therefore getting a time penalty
at the end of the race putting me back to 16
th.

Race 3 was going well but then on lap 12 when I was following Craig Baird whose diff failed and dropped oil all over the track. Before I even knew, I hit the oil and was just a passenger ending up hitting the wall, another 5 cars hit the wall right behind me. Thankfully my car wasn’t too badly damaged and I was able to finish the race in 12
th.

I am still P11 in the championship with the next round at Manfield on the 12
th and 13th of February.
A big thanks to all of my sponsors and Team Richards Motorsport for all their efforts over the last few weeks, I certainly couldn’t be here today without all of you support.
